Overview

Inspection templates define what items operators check during pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Customize templates to match your equipment types and compliance requirements.

What Are Inspection Templates?

Templates contain:

  • Inspection items - Specific things to check (tires, lights, brakes, etc.)
  • Item categories - Groupings (Exterior, Interior, Safety, etc.)
  • Response types - Pass/Fail, Good/Needs Attention/Critical
  • Required photos - Mandatory photo documentation

Default Templates

CLUE includes standard templates for common equipment:

  • Vehicle DVIR - Standard DOT pre-trip inspection
  • Heavy Equipment - Construction equipment checklist
  • Trailer - Trailer-specific items

Template Components

Inspection Items

Each item the operator must check:

  • Item name and description
  • Which response options to show
  • Whether photos are required
  • Severity if issue is reported

Categories

Groups of related items:

  • Exterior (lights, tires, body)
  • Interior (controls, gauges, safety equipment)
  • Engine (fluids, belts, filters)
  • Safety (fire extinguisher, first aid, triangles)

Assigning Templates to Assets

Templates are assigned based on:

  • Asset type
  • Product class
  • Individual asset overrides

Tips

  • Keep templates focused - too many items reduces completion quality
  • Include critical safety items that match regulations
  • Review templates annually and update as needed
