What is SPN 2631

SPN 2631: Refers to a fault related to the diesel particulate filter (DPF) pressure sensor, which measures the pressure across the DPF to monitor its condition and efficiency.

When SPN 2631 is triggered, it indicates that the ECM is receiving abnormal readings from the DPF pressure sensor, which could suggest a problem in the DPF system, such as clogging or insufficient flow.

Why It Happened

This fault code is commonly caused by:

  • A malfunctioning or failed DPF pressure sensor.
  • Blockages or restrictions in the DPF, affecting pressure readings.
  • Contamination or corrosion in the sensor or connectors.
  • A failure in the ECM's ability to process the sensor’s data correctly.
  • Problems in the DPF system, such as excessive soot buildup or poor regeneration.

How to Resolve It

To resolve SPN 2631:

  1. Inspect the DPF pressure sensor for faults or damage and replace if necessary.
  2. Check the DPF system for blockages, contamination, or excessive soot buildup.
  3. Inspect wiring and connectors for any signs of wear, corrosion, or poor connections.
  4. Test the DPF system’s performance and ensure it is functioning correctly.
  5. After repairs, clear the fault code and restart the engine to verify that the issue is resolved.

How to Avoid Before It Happens

To prevent SPN 2631:

  • Regularly inspect the DPF system and pressure sensor.
  • Clean the DPF and ensure it is functioning correctly.
  • Use Clue to monitor DPF pressure data in real-time and get early alerts on sensor issues or DPF performance degradation.
