What is FMI 14:

FMI 14 refers to Sensor Not Responding or Invalid Signal. The ECM detects that the sensor is either unresponsive or the signal it provides is invalid, preventing proper system operation.

Why This Happens:

  • Faulty or malfunctioning sensor.
  • Damaged or corroded wiring or connectors.
  • Sensor power supply issues.
  • ECM failure to receive a valid signal.
  • Environmental conditions affecting sensor performance.

How to Fix It:

  1. Inspect the sensor for visible damage or failure.
  2. Test the sensor’s output and verify proper operation.
  3. Check wiring for damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
  4. Replace the faulty sensor if necessary.
  5. Ensure ECM is receiving the proper signal and recheck the system.

How to Avoid It Before It Happens:

  • Regularly inspect sensors for wear or malfunction.
  • Ensure proper power supply to sensors.
  • Keep connectors clean and corrosion-free.
  • Clue’s equipment maintenance services monitor sensor performance to detect signal issues before they affect engine operation.
