What is FMI 11:

FMI 11 refers to signal voltage out of range (High or Low). The ECM detects that the sensor or component is sending a signal that is either too high or too low, which may result in inaccurate data being used for system operation.

Why This Happens:

  • Faulty or malfunctioning sensor.
  • Shorted or damaged wiring.
  • Corroded or loose connectors.
  • Electrical interference.
  • ECM failure to properly interpret the data.

How to Fix It:

  1. Inspect the sensor for malfunction or damage.
  2. Test the sensor’s voltage to ensure it’s within the expected range.
  3. Check wiring and connectors for visible damage or corrosion.
  4. Replace the faulty sensor or component.
  5. Reset the ECM and clear the fault code.

How to Avoid It Before It Happens:

  • Perform regular sensor inspections and tests.
  • Maintain clean and secure electrical connections.
  • Avoid electrical interference around critical sensors.
  • Clue’s equipment maintenance services track sensor health and voltage levels to prevent malfunctions.
