What is MID 68:

MID 68 is linked to the powertrain controller, often managing engine and transmission coordination. A fault may result in reduced performance or warning lights on the dash.

Why This Happens:

  • Controller software corruption
  • Faulty ECM/TCM communication
  • Damaged powertrain wiring
  • Failed control module
  • Overheating or low voltage issues

How to Fix It:

  1. Scan for DTCs in both engine and transmission modules.
  2. Verify proper power and ground supply to the control unit.
  3. Update or reflash the controller software.
  4. Repair or replace faulty wiring between ECM and TCM.
  5. Replace the control module if non-responsive.

How to Avoid It Before It Happens:

  • Monitor controller performance during inspections.
  • Protect electronic components from heat and vibration.
  • Keep software up to date.
  • Use high-quality electrical connections.
  • Clue’s fleet management platform ensures coordination between engine and transmission systems stays optimal.
