What is FMI 1:

FMI 1 refers to General Sensor Error. The ECM detects that the sensor is not providing a valid or expected signal. This could be due to a wiring issue, sensor failure, or other related problems in the circuit.

Why This Happens:

  • Faulty or malfunctioning sensor.
  • Damaged or shorted wiring in the sensor circuit.
  • Loose or corroded sensor connectors.
  • ECM failure to process sensor data.

How to Fix It:

  1. Inspect the sensor for visible damage or malfunction.
  2. Check wiring and connectors for any short circuits, damage, or corrosion.
  3. Test the sensor’s output to verify correct operation.
  4. Replace the faulty sensor if necessary.
  5. Clear the fault code after repairs and check for recurring issues.

How to Avoid It Before It Happens:

  • Perform routine inspections of sensors and wiring.
  • Keep connectors clean and free from corrosion.
  • Regularly test sensor output and recalibrate if necessary.
  • Clue’s equipment maintenance services track sensor performance and help prevent malfunctions before they impact engine operation.
