What is P0024:

P0024 is a generic diagnostic trouble code (DTC) that indicates an issue with the B Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 2). This code means that the camshaft position actuator circuit on Bank 2 is not functioning within its expected range or is not performing correctly, which can affect engine timing and performance, leading to rough idling, misfires, or poor fuel efficiency.

Why This Happens

The P0024 code can be caused by:

  • Faulty camshaft position actuator on Bank 2.

  • Damaged or shorted wiring to the actuator circuit.

  • Loose or corroded connectors affecting the signal to the engine control unit (ECU).

  • Faulty camshaft position sensor sending incorrect data.

  • Oil flow issues that affect the actuator’s ability to adjust timing properly.

  • Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM) failing to manage the actuator’s performance.

How to Fix It

To resolve the P0024 code, follow these steps:

  1. Inspect the wiring and connectors for any visible damage, corrosion, or loose connections.

  2. Test the camshaft position actuator on Bank 2 to ensure it is functioning properly.

  3. Check the camshaft position sensor to verify it is sending accurate data to the ECU.

  4. Verify oil levels and quality to ensure the actuator is receiving proper oil flow.

  5. If necessary, replace the actuator, sensor, or damaged wiring.

  6. Clear the fault code and restart the engine to verify that the issue is resolved.

How to Avoid It Before It Happens

To prevent the P0024 fault code:

  • Regularly inspect the camshaft position actuator, wiring, and sensors for wear or damage.

  • Keep oil levels at the proper level and change oil regularly to maintain proper actuator function.

  • Ensure connectors and wiring are secure, clean, and free from corrosion.

Perform routine diagnostics to detect potential issues early before they affect engine performance.
